A Siri alternative for Mac that never sends your voice anywhere
Rubidu lives in your menu bar as a tiny face. You talk, it does things on your Mac, and it answers in a voice you pick. Everything it hears, thinks and says happens on your Mac, so it keeps working with the Wi-Fi off.
What's different from Siri
- Fully on your Mac. Speech recognition, the AI and the voice all run locally. No account, no telemetry, nothing uploaded.
- Works offline. Its models come inside the app, so it needs no internet at all. Looking things up online is your choice, one switch per source.
- Hears you over a video. Play music or a YouTube video and keep talking: Rubidu removes what your Mac is playing from what the microphone hears.
- A personality you choose. Witty, sarcastic, calm, Gen Z, a developer, or one you make yourself, each with its own voice, jokes and sounds.
- Your own voice, if you want. Record a minute of yourself once and Rubidu can speak as you. The recording never leaves your Mac.
- Learns you, only if you say so. Turn on Learn my habits and it notices your routine and offers it as one phrase. Everything it learned is listed, and one click forgets it.
- Fits the room. Record your home and your office once; Rubidu listens tuned to each by the clock. Quiet replies show answers on screen in a library or an open office.
What you can say
- "Open Safari and search for flights to Lisbon"
- "Play next" or "pause" on whatever is playing, YouTube included
- "Remind me at six to call home" and "put buy milk on my sticky note"
- "Turn on dark mode", "set brightness to 40", "turn off Bluetooth", "open sound settings"
- "Transcribe this" on a voice memo or a video
- "Read this to me" on any selected text
Honest limits
Rubidu needs a Mac with Apple silicon, 16 GB of memory and macOS 26.2 or later. It has been tested on a MacBook Air M2 and an M4. Its AI is small enough to run on your Mac, so it is quick and private but not as broad as a big cloud chatbot. English works best.
Questions
Does Rubidu replace Siri?
You can use it instead of Siri for everyday things on your Mac: apps, music, timers, reminders, settings, dictation and questions. It does not change Siri; both can stay installed.
Does it need the internet?
No. Its models come inside the app, so it works offline from the start. It goes online only when you ask it to look something up, and you can switch each source off in Settings, Online.
Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
No. What you say is turned into text on your Mac and is never uploaded. There is no account.
